The Capewell Town Homes are located in the most historic neighborhood in Hartford – Charter Oak. This neighborhood is home to:

Historic Charter Oak – In 1687, King James II sent an agent and troops to seize the charter that gave Connecticut residents the right to govern themselves. Legend has it that the charter was whisked out of the Old State House in the cover of darkness and hidden in an oak tree along what is now Charter Oak Avenue.

Colt Firearms Factory – Samuel Colt was a manufacturing giant who helped make the Connecticut River Valley the Silicon Valley of its time. Plans are underway to create a national historic park in the firearms factory along with a mix of commercial and residential uses.

Church of the Good Shepherd – Samuel and Elizabeth Colt built this church for residents and workers who lived and worked in the neighborhood.

Armsmear – The historic Colt mansion along Wethersfield Avenue provides housing to elderly women.

Colt Park – This large park is one of the busiest in Connecticut. On any weekend one may see baseball, softball, soccer, basketball, rugby and flag football being played. It is also home to Hartford Vintage Base Ball.

Located within several blocks of the Capewell Town Homes are Hartford City Hall, the new Front Street redevelopment, Bushnell Park, the State Capitol, the Wadsworth Atheneum, numerous restaurants and stores, and the riverfront parks and trails. The Coalition to Strengthen the Sheldon/Charter Oak Neighborhood (CSSCON) is one of the most active neighborhood organizations in the city.
